The City of North Bay has been named a ‘5 Blooms – Bronze’ winner in the national Communities In Bloom competition, with a special mention for Volunteerism and Community Spirits.

North Bay also received Outstanding Achievement Awards for Plant and Floral Displays; Youth Involvement and Tree Management.

This summer two judges visited the city, evaluating the overall contributions of various groups including city departments, businesses, volunteers and others in several areas.

They include Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant & Floral Displays.

“North Bay exudes community spirit,” reads a statement from volunteer judges Tina Liu and Karen Stephenson. “There are a plethora of community groups that are active in the city and they cover a broad spectrum of community needs. Whether there is a garden bed to be planted in a public park or a marginalized group that needs support, there are volunteers on hand to provide the support that is needed. The City of North Bay provides strong support for the community groups that are active. Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay is just one example of a group making a difference, focusing on enhancing and beautifying the city through initiatives such as encouraging residents to pick up litter, planting urban orchards, and recognizing residents’ and businesses’ beautification efforts. This shared sense of responsibility and pride helps make North Bay not only a vibrant community but also a place where collective action truly thrives.”

5 Blooms – Bronze, is a step up from last year’s 5 Bloom result, with the city receiving a score between 84-86.9% during its evaluation.
