City and provincial police taking part in Operation Impact this long weekend

Safety is in your hands.

That’s the message to drivers from the North Bay Police Service this Thanksgiving long weekend.

They’re joining communities across Canada for Operation Impact, a national awareness campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

City police officers will be patrolling the streets of North Bay this weekend promoting safe driving behaviours.

They’ll also be focusing on behaviours those that put drivers, passengers, and other road users at risk, including:

  • Impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs, or fatigue
  • Aggressive driving
  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Failing to wear a seat belt

North East Region Ontario Provincial Police officers will also be out in full force and targeting unsafe driving practices this long weekend as part of Operation Impact.

They say so far this year, 269 lives have been lost on OPP-patrolled roadways. Provincial police add the majority of the fatal incidents resulted from poor decisions and careless behaviours behind the wheel.

They’re calling on everyone to do their part, not just this Thanksgiving weekend, but all year long.
