City leaders meet with Health Minister

Several health-related issues were the focus for a city delegation at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association’s conference.
Mayor Peter Chirico, Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield and councillors Mac Bain, Mark King, Chris Mayne and Tanya Vrebosch attended the conference in Toronto this week.
Sessions included meetings with Health Minister Sylvia Jones and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.
“It was a productive conversation on how we can continue working together to make sure the people of North Bay benefit from improved access to high-quality health care, where and when they need it most,” Fedeli stated on social media.
The city says they discussed a variety of key issues, including physician recruitment, municipal challenges related to mental health, addictions, and homelessness, as well as funding for public health in Northern Ontario.
Members of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) were also at the conference and met with a few provincial cabinet ministers. Along with food insecurity, they discussed safety and support, housing, and homelessness outreach.
“These delegations represent a significant opportunity for the DNSSAB to advocate for the needs of Nipissing District residents,” says Mark King, DNSSAB chair. “Being at the Conference has been an uplifting experience, surrounded by passionate municipal leaders from across our communities.”
Officials say the ROMA conference was expected to attract more than 1,600 participants from across the province.
