City of North Bay to operate Bruman Community Dog Park

The City of North Bay will soon be assuming the operation and maintenance of the Bruman Community Dog Park.

The transition of the dog park, which is located near Champlain Park, will take place on Nov. 30.

Officials say it follows 10 successful years of operation by the North Bay and District Humane Society under a lease agreement with the city.

It was created by the Human Society in response to community demand for a safe space for dogs to run off-leash.

Mayor Peter Chirico says the Human Society’s leadership and initiative were instrumental in creating the city’s first off-leash Park – and they’re grateful for their stewardship and commitment.

The City says the Humane Society has decided to focus its efforts and resources on its core mission of animal care, sheltering and welfare services.

“When we opened the Bruman Community Dog Park in 2015, it filled an important community need,” said Liam Cullin, Executive Director of the Humane Society. “We’re proud to have played a role in establishing this wonderful space for local dog owners. As we refocus on our core programs, we’re confident the City will continue to ensure the park remains a welcoming, well-maintained spot for dogs and their people.”

The city says the park will continue to operate as an off-leash facility with designated areas for large and small dogs. All existing rules and regulations regarding licensing, vaccination, and pet supervision will remain in effect.
