City police report Intimate Partner Violence calls up 28% in July
The North Bay Police Service says calls for service increased 7% in July, compared to the month before.
Officials say a concerning trend was a 28% increase in intimate partner violence calls.
They say that contributed to higher numbers of criminal charges, including spousal assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and more.
“Supporting victims of intimate partner violence remains one of our highest priorities,” says A/Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. “These calls consistently represent one of the leading reasons our officers are dispatched, and we remain committed to working with our community partners to ensure victims receive support and protection.”
Police say shoplifting and theft-related calls were also on the rise last month.
Total calls for service were 3,197 with 274 arrests made and 486 charges laid.
The say officers also investigated 121 motor vehicle collisions in July—an average of four every day.
