City police say 30-40 rounds of ammunition fired inside local home
An active gunfire call to city police has resulted in a few charges for a North Bay man.
The North Bay Police Service says officers with the patrol section and Emergency Response Team responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the Cedar Heights area at about 9:45 pm on July 31.
Police say officers quickly contained the area with a person surrendering shortly after 10 pm and taken into custody, without further incident.
A 59-year-old man is charged with careless use of firearm, discharging a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner, and possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Investigators determined an estimated 30 to 40 rounds had been fired inside the residence.
A search warrant was executed the next day with police seizing:
– 13 conventional firearms
– Seven airguns
– Crossbow
– 3D-printed handgun receiver and slide
– Ammunition exceeding 10,500 identifiable rounds/shells
– Numerous spent cartridges and spent shotgun shells
“The response of the officers who attended this incident should be applauded,” says A/Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. “They rapidly deployed to an active gunfire situation and, through effective communication and the use of de-escalation tactics, were able to safely resolve a very dangerous situation. We are very grateful that no one was injured. This outcome reflects the training, preparedness, and courage of our members to protect the safety of our community.”
City police also thank the North Bay OPP, and OPP Tactics and Response Unit for their assistance in this investigation.
The accused was released on bail with a future court date of Sept. 1.
