City police Traffic Infraction Warning letter-writing campaign underway

If your vehicle has been reported for unsafe driving behaviours you may end up receiving a warning letter from city police.
The North Bay Police Service has launched a new initiative to address what it says is a growing number of traffic-related complaints from the public.
As part of this effort, the Traffic Enforcement Unit is now issuing Traffic Infraction Warning Letters to registered vehicle owners.
City police say 1,463 traffic complaints were received last year, ranging from speeding and reckless driving to not stopping for school buses and more.
The letter-writing campaign started in May 2025, for incidents where a license plate was identified in a public complaint.
To date, 25 warning letters have been issued as part of the pilot phase.
What to Know If You Receive a Letter:
- A member of the public has reported your vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner.
- The complaint has been officially logged in our call-for-service system.
- This information may be accessed by officers in the future.
- The letter is a warning only and will not affect your driving record.
- No demerit points will be issued.
- Your insurance company will not be notified.
Police say if a vehicle continues to be the subject of traffic complaints, further follow-up may be conducted by the Traffic Enforcement Unit while investigations may be started in cases involving serious or repeated infractions.
