City staff to update council on community and rec centre construction
A detailed update on the city’s new Community and Recreation Centre is coming to a special council committee meeting on Monday.
A staff report says at the end of October, extra costs on the $63 million project amount to just under $360,000.
That leaves just over $700,000 in the original project contingency.
“The project has incurred extra costs due to unforeseen underground conditions and additional accessibility features,” states the report from David Jackowski, Manager, Special Projects.
He adds that staff continue to closely monitor expenditures.
Meantime, Jackowski says work on the foundation, structural steel and the high roof is complete.
He says September and October saw roofing, masonry, underground mechanical and building envelope work begin.
“The project is on schedule and on budget,” states his report.
Work on the facility is slated to be completed in August.
It will feature two ice pads, a walking track, a large community room, and 14 dressing rooms.
