“This funding will help us better understand the climate risks facing North Bay and identify how we can prepare for them,” says Mayor Peter Chirico. “It will support the development of a climate adaptation plan and help make sure climate impacts are considered in the City’s planning and decision-making.”
MP Pauline Rochefort says communities like North Bay are already seeing the effects of a changing climate, whether that means more intense storms, flooding, or pressure on local infrastructure.
“This funding will help the City identify its risks, plan, and make informed decisions about how to protect people, services, and public assets in the years ahead,” says Rochefort. “Investing in preparation now can help avoid higher costs and greater impacts down the road.”
Across Canada, just over 140 climate-related municipal adaptation projects are receiving more than $34 million in funding.
