Community tree planting at St. Gregory Catholic School in Powassan

Nine new mature trees are providing shade and creating a lasting green space at St. Gregory Catholic Elementary School in Powassan.
Powassan Home Hardware Building Centre teamed up with Tree Canada, Laporte’s Nursery and Greenhouses, Eagle Tree Service and others to host a community tree plant on Sept. 25.
Several people including local volunteers, students, families, and others were on hand for the event.
Originally planned as a six-tree planting, officials say the event exceeded expectations thanks to strong volunteer turnout and local support.
“We had a stellar tree plant event, and it was a huge win to see so many volunteers come out to help get all nine trees in the ground,” says Leah Morrow, Home Hardware HR Manager. “It was one of the best planned and most supported tree plants we have held to date, and it truly was a team effort from our staff, local partners, and the community.”
The day included a formal ceremony with a number of speeches followed by a hands-on planting
