Community welcomes new mural

A celebration of life.

That’s what artist Corbin Elliot says is the inspiration behind the new mural on the former City Laundry building at the corner of McIntyre East and Regina Street.

“It’s celebrating being together in community and nature,” he says. “Finding the beauty within simplicity and finding wonder and wisdom within the complexities of life.  Being reminded of our inner child and our desires for play and fun.  An overall message of love and peace.”

Elliot says creating the mural was a surreal experience, given how welcoming the community was while he was painting it.

“Every single time I was out here there were people honking, people saying ‘great job’ and it was just amazing to hear those affirmations,” he says. “I learned more and more that North Bay has a hunger for public art like this.”

It was sponsored by Clean, Green, Beautiful (CGB) North Bay.

Hariett Madigan, CGB Chair, says there hasn’t been one negative comment on social media.

“This makes people happy,” she says. “It makes people feel at home.  It’s going to create connection between neighbours and maybe it’s going to help people beautify their own yards.”

Madigan says they hope to do more public art, too.

“I am elated by this,” she says. “We’re asking neighbourhoods what would make your neighbourhood more inviting, more beautiful and more welcoming.”

Several donors stepped up to provide supplies, safety equipment, and more for the project.

Those looking to bring a mural to their neighbourhood or get involved with future projects can reach out to CGB or connect directly with Tom Richardson, Mural Lead.
