Compassionate Committee Helping Homeless
By Richard Coffin
Over a hundred pairs of new winter boots have been donated to people experiencing homelessness in our area.
It’s thanks to the Compassionate Committee for the Homeless in North Bay’s winter boot campaign.
Five trunk loads of hats, mitts, scarves, and thermal socks were donated in November, along with 104 pairs of brand-new winter boots.
“Once again, we had a great outpouring of kindness from the community,” says Leah Pierce, committee chairperson. “Organizations like The AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area, Open Arms Café, Catholic Charities, Children’s Aid Society, the Cold Weather Housing Response Program, Tracy’s Heart and Hands, and True Self were very excited and thankful to receive the brand-new mitts, thermal socks and boots to clothe people experiencing homelessness.”
The committee also received coats, blankets, and warm clothing that were also donated to people experiencing homelessness.
Over the past four years the committee has donated 300 pairs of brand-new boots to frontline organizations who support people experiencing homelessness.
Next up, the committee is making plans to host an Easter Dinner and hold its Backpacks of Love summer campaign.
