Conciliated talks for Ontario’s colleges and OPSEU

The College Employer Council (CEC) says it has entered conciliation with the union representing 15,000 full-time and partial-load college professors, instructors, librarians, and counsellors.

This ahead of strike votes being held Oct. 15-17 for Ontario Public Service Employee Union (OPSEU) members at colleges across Ontario, including Canadore.

Bargaining between the two sides has been ongoing since mid-July.

The CEC says the union is making over 200 demands while OPSEU contends the employer is seeking 30 concessions.

Officials say they’re both looking to modernize how workload is assigned to teachers.

The employer says even though the 2021-2024 collective agreement has expired, it continues to remain in effect.
