Council and school board hopefuls can file nomination papers Friday
Municipal election season kicks into gear this week with a couple of key dates.
A rescheduled Candidate Information Workshop takes place Wednesday, April 29 at 6 pm in the council chambers at North Bay City Hall.
It’s being hosted by the city, Callander, Powassan, and Nipissing Township.
Officials say topics include municipal powers, the difference between governance and administration, municipal conflict of interest, and more.
Featured speaker Nigel Bellchamber has been guiding elected and appointed officials for more than 20 years.
On Friday, candidates can start filing their nominations, third party advertisers can register, and the campaign gets underway for the mayor’s seat, ten councillor spots and various school board trustees.
Each nomination must include the endorsement of 25 eligible voters.
The fee is $200 for mayor and $100 for all other candidates.
Hopefuls have until 2 pm on Friday, Aug. 21 to file their papers, and an appointment with the city clerk is needed.
The municipal election is taking place on Monday, Oct. 26.
Voting is being done entirely online in the City of North Bay.
