Council approves Premier Road Project

A $2.1 million construction project is coming to Premier Road.
Council awarded a contract for the work on Tuesday night.
It involves the construction of sidewalks and stormwater improvements, including resurfacing Premier Road from the unopened Fowler right-of-way, where the current sidewalk ends, to Champlain Park.
“I’m pleased to see this project moving forward,” says Councillor Justine Mallah, Chair of Community Services. “We’ve heard from citizens in this chamber regarding concerns about Premier Road such as pedestrian safety. I think that with the proximity of lake access points, Champlain Park and the dog park, the enhancements are really important so it’s great to hear.”
Councillor Mark King expects the improvements will be welcomed by the neighbourhood.
“The actual condition of the road, the lack of sidewalks and the busyness of that whole corridor right down to the beach is quite something to watch,” he says. “I’m sure the community, the people that live on that road are looking forward to seeing this development completed.”
A staff report says most of the project cost will be covered by federal and provincial funding received to complete the installation of sidewalks and stormwater improvements around the city, with the rest earmarked in this year’s capital budget.
