Council to vote on motion honouring long time former councillor

By Richard Coffin

A motion honouring the late George Maroosis is coming to council Tuesday night.

It looks to recognize the long-time city councillor and businessman with the renaming of a downtown parkette.

The motion says along with decades of continuous service to the city and multiple non-profit boards, Maroosis and his family owned businesses in North Bay dating back to 1910.

It also cites his support of Indigenous and local artists.

If approved by council, the parkette bordering Cassells Street, Algonquin Avenue and Main Street West will be renamed ‘The George Maroosis Parkette’.

Maroosis passed way in November 2023.
