Council vacancy in West Nipissing for the second time this term

Council vacancy in West Nipissing for the second time this term

Ward 6 in West Nipissing is without a councillor for the time being.  This after the resignation of Anne Tessier this week.

The municipality says she penned a letter to her fellow members of Council, indicating she and her family are relocating for another opportunity, and she will no longer be a resident or property owner in West Nipissing.

“I am grateful to everyone I met from the date I submitted my candidacy until now,” she says.  “This experience, as a member of Council, has helped me in developing new skills and knowledge for my new adventures.” The municipality says Tessier’s seat will be declared vacant at the next council meeting on Tues., Aug. 13 and a process of appointment will be used to fill the position.

After being declared vacant, the seat must be filled within 60 days.  This is the second time this term a council seat has been vacated in West Nipissing.

Jérôme Courchesne, resigned as Ward 8 councillor in April after accepting a position at Au Château Home for the Aged.   Officials said that disqualified him under provincial legislation from holding a council seat as Au Chateau is considered a Local Board.  Georges Pharand was appointed Ward 8 councillor after a council vote in mid-May.
