DANIEL JOHN MAGILL

DANIEL JOHN MAGILL

July 18, 1965 – November 4, 2025

Daniel (Dan) John Magill was born on July 18, 1965, in North Bay, Ontario, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Ottawa Heart Institute after a long and courageous struggle with significant health challenges.

Dan was survived by his devoted parents, Eric and Joy Magill; lovingly remembered by his son Liam (Val) and cherished grandson Lochlan Peter; his caring brother Timothy (Angie), nephew Dustin, and niece Darby (Kevin); his close uncle Ewart (Verna Jean) and many cousins; as well as predeceased by his brothers, Robert Earl and Peter Ross (Dian). The arrival of his grandson, Lochlan, this past July brought profound joy to Dan, illuminating his final months with the pride and wonder of being a first-time grandfather.

Dan graduated from Widdifield Secondary School (OSSHGD), later completing postsecondary studies in Telecommunication Technology and Business Administration at Canadore College, as well as earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Nipissing University. His passion of learning continued through operating systems and extensive professional training in the telecommunications field.

Guided by both ambition and his entrepreneurial spirit, in 1999 Dan founded Service-Tel, servicing clients across Northeastern Ontario with dedication, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to quality service. He was always grateful for the opportunity to provide quality work while developing lasting professional relationships.

A proud Amateur Radio Operator known by his call sign VE3DLL, Dan connected with radio enthusiasts around the world. His call sign has now gone silent, leaving many friends within the amateur radio community remembering his voice with fondness.

Dan’s leadership emerged early in life. He served as President of the Widdifield Secondary School Student Council and was elected to the Ontario Student Council as the representative for Northeastern Ontario. Through this role, he participated in meetings at Queen’s Park alongside Members of Provincial Parliament. His enthusiasm for public service and civic engagement remained with him throughout his life.

Affectionately known as “Dano,” Dan carried a larger-than-life presence and surrounded himself with loyal friends. Hopefully, you were never in a rush when grabbing a bite with “Dano” as he ran on his own time. He loved a spirited conversation and shared his warmth, humour, and resilience generously with those around him. His strength, kindness, and ability to connect with people will be deeply missed.

Though his life was far too short, Dan’s light, love, and laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will remain a lasting source of comfort, joy, and inspiration.

Following Dan's wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Friday December 12 from 11 am to 1 pm. A memorial service will be conducted in the chapel at 1 pm followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Canada or a charity of your choice, in honour of Dan’s life and legacy.
