Dennis Moore
Dennis Thomas Moore passed away peacefully in his sleep at NBRHC on January 2nd 2026, he was 94 years old.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Elaine Margaret Moore nee Clarke. After his wife’s passing in 2009 Dennis moved to North Bay and lived at the ONR apartments and finally at Marina Point. Though he was born in Ottawa he loved North Bay and he wanted it to be known that he was happy and proud to say that North Bay was home, the town that he felt had adopted him with open arms in the later years of his life.
Dennis was a career soldier, retiring as a Sergeant in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry(PPCLI) in the 1970’s. He originally joined as a volunteer to go and fight in the Korean War with his older brother. Dennis was the last remaining member of the historic Imjin River hockey game that took place during the Korean War just a few hundred yards from the front lines in January 1952. In classic Canadian fashion there was a frozen river and the PPCLI and the Royal 22nd Regiment(VanDoos) decided they should have a game of hockey. PPCLI won the game 7-4 and if he was asked, Dennis would proudly tell you that he scored 4 of the 7 goals! He was a very good and avid hockey player and played a high caliber of hockey throughout his military career. For many years, as the guest of honour, he dropped the puck for the ceremonial faceoff during Remembrance Day celebrations. This may explain his love and passion for his hometown North Bay Battalion. He relished getting the opportunity to speak to the young hockey players in the dressing room before the game.
Dennis was the youngest of 7 children and was predeceased by his parents James and Rebecca Clarke (nee Tranchemonthene), his brother Douglas and his sisters Carmen, Romaine, Sheila, Kathleen and Ann.
Dennis will be resting at Hillside Funeral Services and there will be a viewing on Sunday January 11th from 2-4pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday January 12th (which would have been Dennis’s 95th birthday) at 2pm at the Queen of Peace Chapel located at CFB North Bay.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Callander Legion Branch 445. Online condolences can be made at www.hillsidefuneral.ca
