Dewey Everett Haynes

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dewey Everett Haynes, who left us peacefully on February 18, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on July 26, 1935, Dewey lived a long, fulfilled life marked by love, dedication, and service to his family and community and country.
He was cherished by so many family and friends who will all remember “Sunday at Dewey and Marlene’s”. He loved to cook up a feast every Sunday and gather everyone together for conversation, music and the best food in town!
A Veteran, Dewey was a proud member of the Black Watch until his retirement, followed by a successful business career, as owner of Haynes TV.
Dewey was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marlene (nee Whitman), and his cherished daughter Brenda Haynes, parents Ella and James Haynes, brothers and sisters, James, Fred and Thornton Haynes, Phyllis Hendsbee, Nancy Reynolds, and Betty Talbot.
He was cherished by so many family and friends. Dewey is survived by his daughters, Nancy Dunbar (Bill Boutilier) and Sharon Taylor (Grant), brother-in-law Murray Whitman (Sandi Steuart), his son-in-law Mike Kennedy, his long time friend Joelle Guimond, and sister Joyce Williams who all cherished him deeply.
Dewey was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and their families, Jon Taylor (Christina Quinlan), Candace Dunwoodie, (Ryan), Trisha Dunbar (Ryan Fitzgerald), Rob Dunbar, (Dayna and Devin), and Tyler Haynes (Rae Brenne). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Thomas, Ollie, Sophie, Aleta, Jack, Jordan, Hunter, and Ayria.
Dewey spent his later years with Nancy and Bill, who tirelessly cared for him, tended his garden, shared sunsets on the lake and enriched his life fully. Their love and care added meaningful years to his life and all of us who loved him are grateful to Nancy and Bill for sharing so much of themselves with him.
Our family wants to say a special thank you to Jennie and Kristy, his care team. You both made his life easier, and he had a special place in his heart for you. You are family to us.
Heartfelt thanks to the his care team at the North Bay Regional Hospital whose care, compassion and professionalism helped make his final days easier.
Dewey’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, loyalty, friendship and compassion. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his generous spirit, honour and sharp wit, and the unwavering love he bestowed upon his family and friends.
The memory of Dewey will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Dewey’s life will take place later this year.
