Disaster recovery assistance funding for Strong and Joly Townships

Strong and Joly Townships are receiving provincial funding to help pay for emergency response costs and critical infrastructure repairs after flooding in June 2024.

The province has announced up to $492,000 for the Township of Strong and up to $63,000 for Joly.

“Our government is stepping up to support our municipalities facing extensive damage due to unexpected natural disasters,” says Graydon Smith, Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “We’re pleased to be providing financial support to help the Township of Strong and Township of Joly repair local infrastructure and help keep people safe.

The province says on June 23-24, 2024, both townships experienced torrential rain, with up to 85 mm falling over a short period of time.

Officials say that triggered sudden and unexpected flooding, which washed out and closed roads and damaged culverts across both municipalities.

The money comes from the Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance program.
