DiVincentiis OHL Goaltender of the Month
Dom DiVincentiis of the North Bay Battalion is the Goaltender of the Month for February, the Ontario Hockey League announced Friday.
In eight games, DiVincentiis posted a won-lost-extended record of 7-1-0 with a 2.39 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage and one shutout, helping the Battalion to a season record of 31-19-8 for 70 points, second in the Central Division.
In 35 games this season, DiVincentiis is 21-9-4 with a 3.22 GAA, an .891 save percentage and the one shutout. His numbers in 110 games over three seasons show a 71-26-7 record, a 2.68 GAA, a .907 save percentage and six shutouts. The 71 wins are second in franchise history to Jake Smith’s 90.
DiVincentiis won the Jim Rutherford Trophy as the OHL’s Goaltender of the Year last season, when he was named Goaltender of the Month for both January and March and Goaltender of the Week three times in the regular season and once in the playoffs. In 2021-22, he received the F.W. (Dinty) Moore Trophy, awarded to the first-year goaltender with the best goals-against average and a minimum of 1,320 minutes played.
“Dom has been a recipient of this award in the past, but this season he’s had to overcome quite a bit of adversity,” general manager Adam Dennis said of the monthly honour.
“He’s shown tremendous mental toughness overcoming these obstacles while remaining a great teammate and leader in our dressing room as well as an incredible role model for the next generation of young goalies in our community.”
DiVincentiis sat out five games after suffering a sprained ankle in a 5-4 home-ice win Oct. 29 over the Sudbury Wolves.
A six-foot-three, 200-pound resident of Bolton, Ont., who turns 20 on Monday, DiVincentiis was a sixth-round pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the Vaughan Kings minor midgets. The Winnipeg Jets, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2022 National Hockey League Draft, signed him to a three-year entry-level contract last summer.
