DNSSAB and NOSDA to Attend 2025 AMO Conference

On August 12, 2025 over 2,500 participants from Ontario municipalities will take part in hundreds of delegation meetings with provincial ministries.
The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) will be joining more than 2,500 participants, including members of the Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association (NOSDA), at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s 2025 AMO Conference in Ottawa from August 17-20. The annual conference is an opportunity for municipal officials and service system managers to work together on solutions to today’s big challenges, to learn, and to create new opportunities that benefit communities.
In addition to the conference program, attendees will take part in hundreds of delegation meetings with provincial ministries. DNSSAB has confirmed delegation meetings with six provincial ministries at the 2025 AMO Conference to advance key priorities within its mandate.
As the service system manager for Ontario Works, Housing Services, Children’s Services, and Paramedic Services in Nipissing District, DNSSAB will advocate for the following:
1. Expanding affordable housing through additional dwelling units in Nipissing District
2. Developing shovel-ready affordable and seniors-focused housing projects in Nipissing District
3. Piloting the Learn and Stay grant program, in partnership with Canadore College, for Early Childhood Educators in Nipissing
4. Enhancing mental health and substance use crisis training for Nipissing Paramedics
5. Reducing long‑term Ontario Works dependency through a primary care nurse pilot in Nipissing District 6.
Expanding grant eligibility for security and violence prevention in community housing in Northern Ontario To supplement advocacy done by District Social Services Administration Boards for their respective service areas, the Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association (NOSDA) will also advocate for issues that impact member organizations across Northern Ontario. NOSDA was formed to strengthen collaboration among Service Managers, providing a unified political voice on policies and program delivery from a Northern perspective.
NOSDA has approved nine resolutions they will be advancing at the 2025 AMO Conference, all related to DNSSAB’s service mandate. DNSSAB will support NOSDA at AMO for the following topics:
1. Housing Challenges: Exemption from Landlord Tenant Board (LTB) for Community Housing Providers
2. Making Community Paramedicine Permanent and Scalable
3. Funding: A Northern Formula for CWELCC
4. Escalating Homelessness Requires Urgent Action
5. Building Social Infrastructure for Economic Growth
6. Reforming Ontario Works to Support Employment
7. Urging Caution on Paramedic Education Reform
8. Strengthening Health Services in Northern Ontario through Integrated Mental Health Support and Paramedic Workforce Stability
9. Enabling DSSAB Access to Infrastructure Ontario Financing
"At AMO, we are making sure the voices of Nipissing and all of Northern Ontario are heard loud and clear," says DNSSAB Board Chair, Mark King. "The issues we are raising reflect real challenges in our communities, from the need for more housing and child care to stronger health services supported by the dedicated people who deliver them, along with better social supports and safer neighbourhoods. It is about making sure people in Nipissing have access to the services and supports they need to live healthy and secure lives."
