DNSSAB Celebrates Paramedic Services Week

Paramedic Services Week and Inaugural Perseverance Award

The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) is proud to recognize Paramedic Services Week, May 18-24, 2025, and mark the inaugural Paramedic Services – Perseverance Awards. This year’s national theme, ‘We Care. For Everyone.’, reflects the commitment and compassion DNSSAB paramedics demonstrate every day as they serve communities across the Nipissing District.

In 2024, DNSSAB paramedics responded to nearly 20,000 emergency calls, delivering timely, expert care across 17,000 square kilometres, highlighting the essential role they play in local health and safety. “Paramedics are the lifeline of our communities – responding with skill, compassion, and perseverance to emergencies and providing essential care to residents across every corner of the Nipissing District,” said Mark King, DNSSAB Chair. “This week, and through our new Perseverance Awards, we honour their commitment and the impact they have on the well-being of our communities.”

2024 Service Recognition and Impact

• 19,293 ambulance emergency 911 calls responded to

• 128 cardiac arrest or post-arrest incidents responded to

• 160 individual community paramedicine clinics conducted

• 2,406 community paramedicine home visits, serving 707 unique patients •

686 unique referrals to community paramedicine from partner agencies

Building on these achievements, DNSSAB has recently enhanced support for paramedic teams by reducing on-call hours and increasing physical presence across the District. These improvements help ensure paramedics are beter positioned to respond to emergencies and provide ongoing community care. Innovation and Partnerships

This year, DNSSAB expanded its fleet with the acquisition of a utility task vehicle (UTV), further strengthening the team’s ability to reach residents in hard-to-access areas. In partnership with Ontario Health, DNSSAB also introduced a new mobile clinic vehicle and its Clinical Access Mobile Partnership – CAMP program, enhancing the extension of community healthcare through outreach resources.

Perseverance Awards The inaugural Paramedic Services – Perseverance Awards were held on May 21 in North Bay, coinciding with Paramedic Services Week. These awards honour paramedics for their years of dedicated service—recognizing those who have served between 5 and 35 years.
