DNSSAB & NDHC Support Niska Nonprofit Housing

District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board and Nipissing District Housing Corporation Support Niska Non-Profit Homes Inc. to Ensure Long-Term Sustainability
The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) and Nipissing District Housing Corporation (NDHC) are supporting Niska Non-Profit Homes Inc., to ensure the continued provision of vital subsidized housing for local residents through Niska’s 22 stacked townhouse units.
This support includes the assignment of the NDHC Board members to act as Niska Board members. This transition is a joint collaboration between DNSSAB, NDHC, and the now former Board President, Dean Decoste, who has stepped down from the Niska Board.
These actions will ensure that Niska can continue to fulfill its mission of providing safe, affordable housing. “It has been a great honour to be given the opportunity to serve as a Board Member, Treasurer, and President for the Niska Non-Profit Housing,” said Dean Decoste, former President of Niska. “As I step down as President to focus on my life, I would greatly thank the NDHC and DNSSAB boards for assuming this responsibility to deliver support and guidance to the residents of Niska. I am confident they will do a great job.” During the first meetng of the newly consttuted Niska Board on March 26, 2025, key leadership appointments were finalized to guide the organization forward.
Mayor Ethel LaValley was appointed as President, and Representative Amanda Smith was appointed as Vice President. Moving forward, collective efforts will focus on implementing positive changes to ensure the long-term sustainability of Niska's operations. DNSSAB and NDHC remain committed to supporting Niska throughout this process, fostering a collaborative environment to enhance community housing.
As progress is made, updates will be provided to keep the community informed. "This collaborative approach, building upon the important work of Dean Decoste, demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability of affordable housing in the Nipissing District," said Mayor LaValley, the incoming President of Niska. "By aligning the expertise and resources of DNSSAB and NDHC, we are confident that Niska will continue to provide quality housing support for its residents."
