DNSSAB Receives CMHC Seed Loan Funding
Advance Housing Development Work Across Nipissing District Federal support enables pre-construction activities at four housing sites in North Bay, West Nipissing, and South Algonquin
The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) has secured Seed Loan funding from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to support early-stage housing development at four properties across the Nipissing District.

The funding will be used for essential pre-construction work required to prepare these projects for future construction. As this work moves forward, community members may notice development-related activities at the following locations:
• 365 Lakeshore Drive in North Bay • Manitou Street in North Bay
• 70 Principal Street East in Verner (West Nipissing)
• 6 Galeairy Lake Road in Whitney (South Algonquin)
Seed Fund loans are designed to support early-stage planning and technical work required to move housing projects toward shovel-ready status. Activities supported through this funding may include environmental assessments, geotechnical studies, site investigations, and other technical and planning work required prior to construction.
“Our government is committed to supporting communities as they build practical, locally driven responses to housing pressures and homelessness. Addressing housing challenges requires collaboration and early investments. This Seed funding will help advance the early stages of housing projects, including planning, and feasibility work. By supporting this critical groundwork, we are helping lay the foundation for more homes for people across the Nipissing District,” said The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada.
The Seed Fund loan funding was secured by the Nipissing District Housing Corporation, DNSSAB’s local housing corporation, and aligns with DNSSAB’s Strategic Plan focus on healthy and sustainable communities. By reducing barriers at the pre-development stage, the funding helps position projects to move forward more efficiently as future funding opportunities become available.
“Access to this type of early funding is critical for communities like ours,” said Mark King, DNSSAB Board Chair. “This support from the federal government and CMHC allows us to do the careful groundwork that strong housing projects require. It helps ensure we are building the right homes, in the right places, and in a way that meets the long-term needs of our communities.”
DNSSAB is grateful for the federal government’s continued interest in and support of housing development in the Nipissing District.
This investment represents an important step toward increasing housing supply and strengthening communities across the District.
