Donald "Don" Sorensen

Donald "Don" Sorensen

With deep sorrow but profound love, we announce Don's passing in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025, at 66 years of age. After a brief and courageous battle with illness, with his family by his side, Don fell asleep and slipped away peacefully into the snowy, starry night to join his parents and brother again. Beloved husband of Rachelle (nee Ferriss), loving father to Jesse and Aubrey (Jamie), and stepchildren Wendy, Donna (Dan), and Beth (Sunny). He was a cherished Grandpa, Papa, and Pappy to Aren, Axel, Kayson, Ky, Gordie, Otis, Noah, and Bruce. He was Alex (Chari)'s cherished brother and a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was also a loving and dedicated dog dad to Maddy and is now reunited on the rainbow bridge with Shooter, Sheldon, and all the pets he adored and remembered throughout his life.

Don is predeceased by his loving mother, Jytte (nee Jacobsen), his father, Arne, and his brother, Ivan ( Brenda).

Dad was a prolific storyteller with a penchant for mild mischief and adventure. Whether he was taking you to the dump somewhere up north to see the bears or down old loggers' roads in Algonquin in the middle of the night to find moose or shooting rockets off in farmers' fields,  you always knew you were in for a real treat when Dad had an “idea.” His real talent for drawing people in was with his guitar. To think of all those times and all those people who sat around a fire or a table, basking quietly and happily in the mighty glow of his voice, is to know him as a person. Whether they be close family or new and old friends, Dad created a memory of a song in each person’s heart that will last for always.

Don will be remembered with love by his family, friends, and colleagues at Erb Transport, where he worked alongside his wife.

The family would like to thank the extraordinary staff at Health Sciences North Sudbury and North Bay Regional Health Centre and request that donations be made to these hospitals instead of flowers. As per Don's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will occur at a later date.

“ Cowboys ain’t easy to love, and they're harder to hold

They’d rather give you a song than diamonds or gold

Lonestar belt buckles and old faded Levis

And each night begins a new day

If you don’t understand him, an’ he don’t die young

He’ll prob’ly just ride away”.
