Donald Vezina

Que Sera Sera

Whatever will be will be

The futures not ours to see…

This was a favorite quotation that DON VEZINA loved to quote for us when we needed some consolation. We reminded him of this during the last few days of his final earthly journey.

Donald Barton Vezina drew his first breath on January 15th 1937 and his last breath on May 29 2025.

Don was the son of Paul and Aileen (Sayer) Vezina (deceased) and a wonderful brother to Pauline Holenski (Peter deceased), Jim Vezina (Mary Linda Baechler) and S. Margie Vezina CSJ.Don enjoyed his nieces and nephews and they loved and admired him. Mary Catherine Holenski (deceased) was his goddaughter and Don died on her birthday. He is survived by his 2 nieces Anne Holenski Kidd (Peter Kidd) and Theresa Holenski Tomaini (Rudy Tomaini). Also survived by his 6 nephews, John Holenski (Pat Kehoe), Peter Holenski (Sandra Feick), Don Holenski (Deb Szabo), Mike Holenski (Danielle Tisi), Robert Holenski ( Pam Blain), Matt Vezina (Chantelle). Don was predeceased by his nephew Christopher Vezina. As an uncle, a great uncle and great great uncle to many; Don loved to hear about each of their lives, enjoyed watching them play and hearing them greet him fondly as UD or Great UD at family gatherings.

Upon graduating from high school Don began work for Bell Canada. He started as a linesman, then worked underground when the Sage Site was being built; installing sensitive communication equipment to keep us safe in case of war. Don was then on loan to the Saudi Arabia Telephone Company to help set up their billing system. While there he took advantage of his free time to visit other parts of the world.  Don was an experienced world traveler. Don returned to Canada and continued to work for Bell till his retirement in 1990. Don loved to ski the mountain ranges of the world and he loved to play a round of golf with friends and family wherever it took him.

Many of Don’s friends enjoyed his generosity of time and quick wit, especially when he returned to North Bay after he retired.

Don will be missed but not forgotten. He was and is well loved.
