EDGAR, David Wellesley
1955-2026
David passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer on February 16, 2026 at the age of 70. He was at his home in Toronto with his loved ones by his side. Born in 1955 to Alex and Ethel Edgar, he was raised in North Bay and attended Chippewa Secondary school and later earned a degree in art history from the University of Guelph. A path that would shape both his career and his way of seeing the world.
He will be dearly missed by his loving partner Olie Olson, his unwavering care is a true lesson of unselfish love and dedication. David is lovingly remembered by his sisters Kathryn Gallagher (Richard) of North Bay and Margaret Edgar of Toronto. As well as nephews Stacy (Heidi) Gallagher, David (Teresa) Gallagher, Carrie Gallagher and his great-nieces Rachelle Proulx and Bethany Vandeberg.
David built a long and fulfilling career in Toronto’s film industry, working as a props buyer, set decorator and then lead set designer. He loved working in the movie industry and made many good friends along the way. In 2025 the Canadian Screen Awards nominated David for Art Direction and Production Design for Humane, directed by Caitland Cronenburg.
David loved travelling while eating amazing food. He was a foodie at heart and a wonderful cook who loved to entertain and have fun. His love of walking was more like hiking and if you ever tried to keep up – good luck to you! His curiosity of life kept him young at heart. He was our “google” before google with all the great knowledge he kept in his head. His beautiful garden will continue to bloom in his memory with all his favourite flowers.
A heartfelt thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Princess Margaret, Toronto General hospital and to the Mount Sinai palliative homecare team. Their wonderful care and treatment made his journey a little easier.
A celebration of life will held in David’s garden this summer.
Please feel free to donate to your favourite charity or the Canadian Cancer Society or a local Humane Society for all the pets David loved so much.
