Edward (Ed) Bettiol

Edward (Ed) Bettiol

Ed passed away at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Friday May 17, 2024 at the age of 94 years.

He was predeceased by his first wife Rose Alice Grignon, second wife Heather Muck and sons Robert (Lianne Bessette-Bettiol - surviving) and David Bettiol.

He is survived by two daughters Margie Bettiol (Doug Flegel) of Thunder Bay, Carol Bettiol of Winnipeg and a son Richard (John Paul) (Grace Abbott) of Sudbury. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Josh and Jonathan Bettiol, Liam Slattery, Eamonn Slattery, Kai Bettiol Krings, Kristina Pick, Stephanie Bettiol, Todd Bessette-Perrin, Tyler Bessette-Perrin, Devin Ronka and 12 great grandchildren.

Ed had a very illustrious career in mining. He attended the Haileybury School of Mining. From there worked in every field of mining across Canada and the U.S.A., later became consultant and travelled the world. He and Alice made North Bay their final home. Ed was a pitcher and hockey player most of his life. At age 87 he was head hunted for a mining job, which he declined! During the last weeks of his life, he repeatedly wanted everyone to know that he loved them.

A good portion of his rock collection is being donated to the Canadian Museum of Nature in his name, as well as gift cards of his sketches.

He was ever so grateful to both Dr Kathryn Shaw, Dr Brian Shaw, Dr Spencer and all the nurses at the North Bay Regional Health Centre for the great care he received.

Family receiving friends at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Rd., on Wednesday May 22nd from 2 until 4 and 6 pm until 8 pm.

A funeral  mass will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Church on Thursday May 23, at 11 am.

Donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre in memory of Ed will be gratefully acknowledged. Online condolences at www.hillsidefuneral.ca
