Elizabeth Valade
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Elizabeth Valade, who passed away peacefully at the Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Born in 1934 in Mattawa, she was in her 92nd year.
Betty, the name she liked to be called, was the loving wife of the late Leon Don Valade, and cherished mother to Don, Barry (Penny), and Shelley (Henri).
Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Muriel and Reginald Backer. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Reis and brother Danny Backer.
A proud grandmother, Betty adored her eight grandchildren and treasured her 10 great grandkids.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Her love and devotion for her family was evident in everything she did, from gathering the family together for any occasion, to sharing her delicious “made with love” meals, to caring for those in need. Betty loved music, decorating, and gave lots of love to her cats throughout the years. She practiced her faith wholeheartedly.
Cremation has taken place. A mass for Betty is scheduled at Ste. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Mattawa on Saturday, May 2nd at 11 a.m. Burial at the Ste. Anne’s Cemetery will follow the mass.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the local Humane Societies, or to a charity of one’s choice would be gratefully acknowledged.
