Series now tied 2-2
Rock pull even with Voodoos
A five-goal second period barrage sent the Timmins Rock on their way to a convincing 7-1 victory over the Powassan Voodoos Monday in Game 4 of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division Final at the Powassan Sportsplex.
This ties the best-of-seven series 2-2 heading back to Timmins for Game 5 Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Timmins needed less than a minute to strike first as Brant Romaniuk came down the right wing and did a slight toe-drag before snapping a shot that got through Powassan starter Daniel Dirracolo.
The Rock extended their lead early in second stanza when Hayden Rynard put a feed over to Thomas Beard who moved right to left in the slot and sent in a backhand that eluded Dirracolo.
Harry Clark then made it 3-0 at 4:52 as he forced a turnover in the neutral zone and went in alone on a shorthanded breakaway, and after being stopped initially, quickly slammed in the rebound for his seventh of the playoffs.
A fourth on the night for the Rock, came on the power play, midway through the contest, saw Romaniuk whip in another as he finished off a Lucas Lowe set-up.
Timmins then chased Dirracolo in favour of back-up Miles Gordon a couple of shifts later when Nolan Ring one-handed in a pass from Kaeden McArthur.
A fifth in the frame saw Mason Svarich snap one in from the top of the left circle during a man advantage.
Powassan eventually solved Rock goalkeeper Patrick Boivin, two minutes into the third, as Reyth Smith collected his own rebound, and while on his knees flipped the puck into the open corner.
Clark then capped off the one-sided result as his stick lift on a defender allowed him to skate in and fire a shot that clipped off the glove of Gordon and trickled in at 15:30.
