Extensive fire damage to Drew Street multi-unit building

There were no injuries after a fire at a multi-unit building on the 2000 block of Drew Street in North Bay Thursday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says the call came in at 5 am with firefighters on the scene in under four minutes.

“There was extensive fire on the second floor of the building,” he says. “Firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the fire while simultaneously conducting a search of the building to make certain that everyone was able to safely evacuate from the danger. Thankfully, nobody was hurt as a result of the fire though there is extensive damage to the structure.”

Fire prevention is investigating the cause.

Saunders says there were working smoke alarms in the building.

“Properly located, properly maintained smoke alarms can provide you the warning necessary to save your life,” he adds.
