Fatal collision on Highway 17 East Monday

Ontario Provincial Police report a child has died after a two-vehicle collision involving a dump truck and a passenger vehicle.

The North Bay OPP says officers responded just before 5:30 pm on Monday to a collision on Highway 17 in East Ferris Township.

Police say an 11-year-old passenger from North Bay was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.

Two other people in the passenger vehicle were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The OPP says Highway 17 was closed for about six hours after the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
