Fedeli on U.S. trade mission
All 51st state or buy Alaska jokes aside, Ontario is drumming up business south of the border.
Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP and Ontario’s Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Minister is leading a trade and investment mission to the United States.
The first stop is the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We’ve got 16 Ontario companies who are exhibiting, showcasing their talents,” Fedeli says. “We also have meetings lined up to showcase Ontario’s world class resources.”
He says they’re also going to the Detroit Auto Show and the Biotech Showcase in San Francisco, California.
Canadian American trade was the focus for Premier Doug Ford on CNN on Monday.
While being questioned about incoming U.S. President Donald Trump’s continued comments on Canada becoming the 51st state, and his own retort about buying Alaska or Minnesota, Ford touted the importance of growing trade between the two countries.
“I want Canada and America to be the richest, most prosperous, safest and most successful countries on the planet,” reads a post from Ford on social media. “Canada has the critical minerals, oil and nuclear energy needed to make it happen.”
He says trade between the U.S. and Ontario is split equally down the middle at $500 billion.
