$130,000 to Support New Seniors Active Living Centres

Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced an investment of $130,000 into three new Seniors Active Living Centres (SALCs) in the district. The Ontario government is investing in 100 new SALC programs opening across the province this year to help improve seniors’ quality of life and build community engagement.

“These new Senior Active Living Centres will be a great addition for our seniors,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “They’ll offer seniors from the entire community the opportunity to stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected through various activities.”

Local SALC investments include the following:

·       $50,000 for Canadore College’s The Village Community Hub for an innovative model focused on inter-professional, inter-cultural and intergenerational education that supports healthy aging

·       $50,000 for Les Compagnons Les jeunes de coeur à North Bay/Young at Heart in North Bay program offering an adapted and inclusive season of artistic, cultural, leisure and sports activities for elderly people

·       $30,000 for The Municipality of Powassan’s Seniors in Action Program that will provide appropriate and accessible opportunities for recreation, education and social connection to encourage seniors to be actively involved, healthy, productive and contributing members of the community.

"We are deeply grateful for this financial support, which will allow us to provide essential services to our seniors and enrich the life of our community. Together, we are building a more inclusive and dynamic future for all. This funding is a testament to the importance of supporting our seniors and valuing their contribution to our society."

SALC programs offer seniors and older adults learning opportunities such as financial management and elder abuse prevention and a variety of recreational and social activities including fitness, healthy lifestyle and wellness classes that are important supports in communities.  The government remains committed to better supporting Ontario’s aging population and the people who care for them by improving and expanding supports for seniors no matter where they live.
