Federal candidates to discuss environmental and climate concerns

By Richard Coffin

A roundtable discussion on environmental and climate concerns is coming up next week for most of the Nipissing-Timiskaming federal candidates.

Northwatch has lined up the event for Wednesday, April 23.

Four of the candidates are taking part in the event at St. Andrew’s United Church on Cassells Street.

They include John Janssen with the People’s Party of Canada, the NDP’s Valerie Kennedy, Louise Poitras with the Green Party and the Liberal’s Pauline Rochefort.

Organizers say Conservative candidate Garry Keller has declined the invitation.

The event starts with an open house at 6 pm, giving the public the chance to talk with the candidates.

That will be followed by the discussion at 7 pm.

Officials say themes include the climate crisis, PFAS, Indigenous rights and nuclear waste transportation in Northern Ontario.

The second hour will include questions from the floor.

Advance polls are open this long weekend.

Election Day is April 28.
