Fill-A-Fire Truck events for Fire Prevention Week
North Bay Fire & Emergency Services is highlighting the importance of working smoke alarms this Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 6-12)
Officials recommend installing smoke alarms on every storey and outside sleeping areas to help prevent fire-related fatalities.
They also say test the alarms monthly, replace the batteries every year, and replace alarms that are over 10 years old.
“Working smoke alarms provide early warning needed to escape fires safely, especially at night when most deadly fires occur,” says Fire Chief Jason Whiteley.
The fire department also says practicing a home fire escape plan is crucial and will save time during the evacuation.
A variety of events are taking place during Fire Prevention Week including two ‘Fill-A-Fire Truck’ events in support of the North Bay Food Bank.
Fire crews will be collecting donations on:
- Tuesday, Oct. 8 (10 am – 6 pm) at Sobeys on Algonquin Avenue
- Wednesday, Oct. 9 (10 am – 6 pm) at Parker's Your Independent Grocer on Laurentian Ave
The fire department will also be conducting fire drills at schools in the North Bay area all this month.
