Final report into PowerSchool cyberattack released
The Near North District School Board says it will make changes where necessary after the final report into a cyberattack against its third-party student information provider.
The Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) of Ontario’s final report into the attack against PowerSchool makes several recommendations.
It says 20 school boards and the Ministry of Education reported they were victims, with the personal information of approximately 3.86 million Ontarians affected.
“We appreciate that the IPC confirmed that our notification efforts after the incident were proper,” reads a Near North Board statement. “We take seriously the IPC’s conclusions regarding our responsibility for ensuring that our technology vendors are sufficiently secure. To that end, since the incident, PowerSchool has committed to appropriately strengthening its security measures, and we will ensure this takes place.”
The board also says it agrees with the Commissioner’s encouragement that all school boards work together to ensure common vendors are secure.
