Five people charged after robbery and drug investigation
More than $33,000 in suspected drugs and $33,000 in Canadian cash has been seized by city police.
This after what initially started out as a robbery investigation with officers called to a home on the 500 block of McNamara Street last Thursday.
Police say two search warrants were then executed. One was at a residence on McNamara while the other one was in the 400 block of McPhail Street.
Along with suspected Fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine and the cash, police seized a 9mm handgun and ammunition.
Five people were arrested, including two from North Bay, two from Orangeville and one from Toronto.
More than 30 charges were filed, and vary between the five men, with some including robbery with violence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and more.
“This is the second firearm-related seizure within the past couple of months and another example of the guns and drugs that continue to plague our community, putting our residents and our officers at risk,” says A/Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. “We continue to see individuals from outside our region, including the GTA, peddle dangerous drugs on our street and bring illegal firearms into our neighbourhoods. This is not something we will accept or tolerate. Our Street Crime Unit, working alongside policing partners across the province, continues to work tirelessly to identify these offenders, disrupt their operations, and hold them accountable.”
Several city police units were involved in the investigation, including the Street Crime Unit, Patrol Section, Emergency Response Team, and Forensic Identification Unit.
The North Bay Police Service is also thanking policing partners with the Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit for their assistance in this investigation.
Police say the five were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
