Flood warnings in North Bay MNR District extended to May 8

By Richard Coffin

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is updating flood warnings around the region.

They continue, and have been extended, for the Lake Nipissing Shoreline and along the Upper Ottawa River, between Lake Timiskaming and the east boundary of Papineau-Cameron Township, including the Town of Mattawa.

A new flood warning has been issued for the Lake Temagami area.

All three are in place until next Friday, May 8.

The MNR says water levels on the Upper Ottawa River are expected to increase and levels in the Mattawa area are anticipated to surpass the start of damage level of 154.8m, reaching 155m by May 1.

Officials say on April 29, the average water level on Lake Nipissing was measured at 196.27m and continues to exceed the maximum “non-damage” level (196.22m).

They say lake levels may rise another five to six cm before they may begin to stabilize, which will depend on the amount of rainfall that is received.
