FONOM looking to ‘The Next 100 Years’

By Brad Aubin

More than 250 municipal leaders from across the north are in North Bay this week (May 5-7) for the annual Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) conference.

This year’s theme is “The Next 100 Years” and pays tribute to North Bay’s upcoming centennial in 2025 looking ahead to the future of Northern Ontario.

FONOM says there are workshops and sessions focused on regional issues like power generation and transmission, northern highway safety, and homelessness in the Northeast.

Updates from the province will also be part of the conference, with seven members of Premier Doug Ford’s cabinet taking part.

“This is a unique opportunity for officials and staff across the Northeast to share insights, address common challenges, and drive regional progress,” says Mayor Peter Chirico.

Nipissing MPP and Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Vic Fedeli, is also being honoured.

He’s receiving the FONOM Executive Award for his political career, including his time as mayor of North Bay, and ‘steadfast commitment to Northern Ontario’.
