Free Labour Day picnic and carousel/mini train rides on Monday

A Labour Day tradition returns to the city’s waterfront on Monday.
The North Bay and District Labour Council is once again organizing a free picnic celebration.
Officials say there will be free food, bouncy castles and kids’ activities, live music, speeches, community booths and more.
The event is back after a one-year hiatus.
The Labour Day Picnic runs from 12 pm to 3 pm on Sept. 1.
Also on Monday, there are free rides on the carousel and mini train, from 10 am to 1 pm.
It’s sponsored by CAA North Bay.
Tickets will need to be purchased after 1 pm on Monday.
With summer coming to an end, the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company also says operations of the waterfront attractions will move to weekends only, beginning next weekend (Sept. 6-7).
They’ll be open each weekend through Thanksgiving Monday, weather permitting.
“We thank the public for supporting the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company especially this year, given the many twists and turns we have experienced,” states a release.
Early in the season a mini train derailed forcing the ride to be closed for a couple of weeks.
This year also saw the large carousel return to operations after it was shut down late last season.
Officials previously said at issue was having the emergency stop button stop the ride in a faster time, along with required electrical work.
