Freezing rain, snow and ice pellets possible through Wednesday

By Richard Coffin

Maybe Mother Nature didn’t get the memo that we’ve moved on to pothole season.

A winter storm watch has been issued for the North Bay area.

Environment Canada says there’s the potential for freezing rain and about 10 to 15 cm of ice pellets and snow overnight Tuesday through Wednesday night.

Local blowing snow and ice build-up of 4 mm is also possible.

It’s all thanks to a low pressure system moving through the region, although the weather agency says the exact track is still somewhat uncertain.

“As a result, confidence is low regarding exact precipitation amounts and types,” states the watch. “Regardless of the precipitation type, hazardous travel conditions are likely.”

The system is expected to begin either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
