Fresh water pool and cricket pitch proposals coming to council
A couple of sports and recreation-related items are on the council agenda Tuesday night.
One is a public presentation on the idea of setting up a fresh water Olympic-length pool at the Birchaven Cove on Trout Lake.
A post on social media calling on supporters to attend the meeting, shows an example with a dock-like structure surrounding the fresh water pool, located close to the shoreline.
Meantime, a report to council is recommending a planned regulation size Cricket Pitch be located at the Omischl Sports Complex on Lakeshore Drive.
This after a site search, which also included College Drive and Highway 11 North, was conducted.
“Cricket has been played in North Bay for approximately ten years,” states the report to council. “North Bay Cricket Club members have advised that the lack of regulation sized field prevents the Club from hosting regulation tournaments.”
If approved by council, the next steps would include investigating three potential sites at Omischl.
Staff says topographic, geotechnical and environmental work would eventually lead to construction in 2026, depending on funding from grant opportunities, and council approval.
The initial estimate on the cost of the project is about $2.5 million.
