Fuel theft in Mattawa leads to list of charges for New Brunswick driver
By Brad Aubin
A 42-year-old from New Brunswick is facing several charges after he failed to stop for Ontario Provincial Police officers on Highway 17.
The OPP says their Mattawa detachment began an investigation involving a fuel theft from a gas station on Monday evening, with the vehicle reported to be travelling west on 17.
They say the North Bay OPP detachment located the vehicle, but it failed to stop and continued west bound.
Later that evening, Nipissing West officers located the vehicle parked at a hotel in West Nipissing, with a search warrant then executed on both the vehicle on the hotel room.
Police say a search of both led to the seizure of various stolen credit and bank cards, personal property and more.
The accused, who police say also had outstanding warrants for robbery in his home province was charged with stunt driving, operation while impaired, flight from police and more.
He was held for bail court and then remanded into custody with a North Bay court date on Feb. 25.
