Gabriel (Gary) Deschesne
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Deschesne on October 1st, 2025 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre in his 94th year.
Dear husband of the late Huguette Deschesne and, is survived by his partner Ruth Jones. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, great uncle and, great-great uncle. Gary is the father of Mike (Lori) Deschesne of North Bay and, Nicole (Tracy) Deschesne of Kingston and, honorary father to Brenda Jones. Dear grandfather to Alison (Shawn) Ruttan, Amy (Preston) Jackson and great-grandfather of Brianna Ruttan and, Ezekiel and Amelia Jackson.
Gary was born and raised in North Bay and is predeceased by 8 siblings. He was very close to his siblings and in laws whom together formed very tight bonds, best of friends. Growing up Gary was an athlete who excelled at hockey, baseball and, bowling. He enjoyed a lengthy career spaning over 50 years with Cochrane-Dunlop, beginning as a truck driver’s helper then rising to the upper levels of management. He followed in his father’s footsteps as a handy man, building his first home, renovating many of his own homes, taking on ambitious projects at the cottage and, helping his children with their projects. For many years Gary owned a cottage on Lake Nosbonsing where all his siblings and their families enjoyed many memories. Following retirement, he volunteered for many years with the Foodbank in Sudbury.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, always playing tricks, preparing elaborately wrapped Christmas gifts, and many small games that he would construct himself to entertain them…. Memories they will cherish forever!
He was very proficient at the card game “500”……Dad, may you take “10 no trump” in heaven and make it! Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.
There will be a graveside ceremony at St. Mary’s cemetery at 11:00 on October 24, 2025 followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at Bethel Gospel Chapel, 781 Tackaberry Dr at 12:00 noon. All are welcome to attend both events. Online condolences can be made at www.hillsidefuneral.ca
