Gilliard, Donna

Donna Gilliard passed away peacefully on January 18, in her 92nd year, at Cassellholme Long-Term Care Home in North Bay, ON. Donna was born on January 7, 1935 in London, ON to Bill and Lillian Rooks (Williams). 

She was predeceased by her brother Ken and husband Sam Gilliard. She met Sam while serving in the Canadian Air Force. The pair were stationed at various bases across Canada and in Europe before settling in North Bay.

After Sam’s death in the mid-80s, Donna moved to Toronto where she worked with the Canada Revenue Agency and could usually be found in a movie theatre eating popcorn during her spare time. Donna was an avid reader of the Saturday Star and a world traveller who embraced a loud and colourful wardrobe. 

She is survived by her brother Larry and his two children and grandchildren who enjoyed their visits with Donna. 

Despite her extensive travels, Donna maintained her marital home in North Bay where she had many fond memories of social gatherings with fellow military personnel. The family would like to thank the staff at North Bay Regional Health Centre and Cassellholme long-term care who provided great support and care for Donna in her final years.

In lieu of a funeral service, the family will gather privately to celebrate her life. Arrangements entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home.
