Giroux, Oscar Joseph (Feb. 8, 1944 – Feb. 19, 2024)

Oscar walked through heaven's gates and into God's loving arms at 3 a.m. on Monday, February 19th, 2024. His loving wife, Barbara, held him in her arms as he passed through. Oscar's passing was sudden and a devastating loss to family and friends.

Beloved husband of Barbara Giroux (nee Buckley). He was predeceased by his first wife Yolande and their son Rémi. Loving father of Angele Séguin (Rhéal) & Sylvie and caring stepfather to Elizabeth Beaupre (Stephan) and Ken Teetzel. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Jolyne Edgar (Cody), Joël Séguin (Ashley), William, Maclean and Cole Teetzel as well as Alex and Erik Beaupré. Proud great-grandfather of Robbie, Mila and Jude.

Also survived by his siblings Richard, André (Nicole), Pierre, Jules (Kathy), Ernest (Debbie), Henri, Aline (Karen), Jean-Marc (Debbie). He was predeceased by his parents Patrick & Sylvia Giroux and by siblings Marie (Bernard, surviving), Armand (Mita, surviving), Joseph, Anne (John, surviving), Patrick (Wesley, surviving) & Alice.

Oscar was a long-time pillar of knowledge and support in the community of East Ferris. The Giroux's were early settlers and at one time his parent's home was one of the only houses on Corbeil Road. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus in Corbeil.  He also served on many committees within the Paroisse Sacré Coeur : Cemetery, Finance, Building, Parish Council. He was a Minister of the Eucharist, sang in the choir and was Senior Altar Server.

In the United Church, he again sang in the choir, plus was part of a trio that sang at other churches and retirement homes. He was the first one to help out at Turkey Dinners, any fund-raising events, scripture readings and was a "Wise Man" in a live Nativity. He never said no.  He participated and enjoyed anything that gave back to the community while serving in God's name. He gave the best "Oscar Hugs".

Oscar's career as a master Meat Cutter, spanned almost 45 years. He seldom knew a person's name but he always new the cuts of meat that they preferred. He was a devoted husband, loving father, very proud grandfather and was over the moon with his great grandchildren.

Oscar spent his life caring and giving of himself in every way possible, to his family, parents, siblings, friends and neighbours. The world was a better place with him in it.

Family will be receiving friends at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Rd on March 16th from 1 pm until 3 pm. A celebration of his life will follow at the funeral home.

Donations in memory of Oscar to either the Sacred Heart Parish in Corbeil, or to the Chisholm United Church would be greatly appreciated by his family.
