GLENN, Thorkelson

GLENN, Thorkelson

We are sad to announce the passing of Glen Julius Thorkelson on March 15, 2025, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. Born on October 18, 1946, in Gimli, Manitoba, to Elizabeth (Betty) (née Campbell) and Julius Thorkelson (both predeceased).

Glen will be deeply missed by all who knew him over the course of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Krystyna Thorkelson. Glen was a beloved brother to Sharon Hrinivich (Bill, predeceased), Sandra Thorkelson (predeceased), Elaine Cyril (predeceased) (Bill), Kristin Leclair (Norman), Roberta Watts (Stuart), Julianne Chaisson (John, predeceased), and Jim Thorkelson.

Glen was a devoted father to Sandra Thorkelson (Mike Spencer), Jason Thorkelson (Jennifer), and Clayton Thorkelson (Carine), and a caring stepfather to Anna Bojczuk (Arthur) and Ewa Luczkowiec (Art).  He was a proud grandfather to Sabastien Darlison, Alexander Hummel, Emma Luczkowiec, Julie Thorkelson, Tyler Smith, Jenna Thorkelson, Savannah Thorkelson, Erika Thorkelson (predeceased), Cassandra Thorkelson, and Caitlyn Thorkelson, as well as an uncle to many cherished nieces and nephews.

Glen worked as an Electrical Technical Consultant for his own company (Thortech) in the mining industry, and he spent years previous to that at JS Redpath and the Ministry of Labour.

An avid outdoorsman, Glen was happiest spending time with family or fishing on local lakes, whether in a boat or on the ice. His many adventures over the years will remain fond memories for all who knew him.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the neighbours, family members, and friends who have supported Glen and Krystyna, especially over the past few months.

As Glen wished, a private cremation will take place, with a Celebration of Life on April 5th, 2025, from 3 pm to 9 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion 445 (Callander), located at 345 Lansdowne St, Callander, ON; all friends and family are welcome. If desired, donations in Glen’s memory may be made to The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, which can be found at https://cpaws.org/
